Pet Calorie Calculator

Estimate how many calories your dog or cat needs each day. Senior pets are usually less active and need fewer calories โ€” getting this right helps avoid the weight gain that strains aging joints.

Enter your pet's weight to estimate their daily calories.

โš•๏ธ This is an educational estimate using the standard RER ร— activity formula. Senior pets and those with kidney, heart, or weight conditions often need a different target โ€” always confirm your pet's daily calories with your veterinarian.

How the calculation works

We use the standard veterinary formula. First we find the Resting Energy Requirement (RER) โ€” the calories a pet burns at rest โ€” using 70 ร— (body weight in kg)^0.75. Then we multiply by an activity factor for your pet's life stage and goal (for example, a neutered adult, a senior, or a pet that needs to lose weight).

Turning calories into cups

Look for the calorie content (kcal/cup or kcal/can) on your food's label, then divide the daily calories by that number to get the daily amount. Split it across meals, and re-check your pet's weight every few weeks.

โš•๏ธ This is an estimate for healthy pets. Kidney, heart, weight, and other conditions change the target โ€” always confirm with your veterinarian.
